Pakistan captain Fatima Sana has been fined 10 per cent of her match fee and handed one demerit point following a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during Pakistan’s Women’s Asia Cup match against India in Dubai.
The incident took place during Saturday’s high-profile encounter between the two teams. Fatima was found to have violated Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which covers the use of language, actions or gestures that disparage a batter or could provoke an aggressive response after their dismissal.
The Pakistan captain was penalised after an incident involving India’s Shafali Verma during the match. Following Shafali’s dismissal, Fatima completed the catch and then made a gesture in the direction of the pavilion.
The gesture resulted in the ICC taking disciplinary action against the Pakistan skipper.
Fatima Sana Accepts ICC Sanction
Fatima admitted to committing the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Supriya Das.
As a result, there was no need for the matter to proceed to a formal hearing.
Under the ICC Code of Conduct, a Level 1 offence can result in a penalty ranging from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50 per cent of a player’s match fee. The offence can also lead to the addition of one or two demerit points to a player’s disciplinary record.
In Fatima’s case, the ICC imposed a 10 per cent fine along with one demerit point.
The latest incident has also taken her total number of demerit points to two within a 24-month period.
Second Offence in Two Years
This was Fatima’s second recorded offence within the ICC’s 24-month disciplinary period.
She had previously received one demerit point during a T20I against Ireland in Dublin on August 6, 2025.
With the latest penalty, her demerit-point tally has now reached two.
The ICC’s disciplinary system tracks such offences over a 24-month period. Accumulating demerit points can lead to further consequences if a player repeatedly breaches the Code of Conduct within that timeframe.
For now, Fatima has been fined and received the additional demerit point, with no further suspension attached to the latest sanction.
Strong Bowling Effort in Difficult Defeat
Despite Pakistan suffering a heavy defeat against India, Fatima delivered an important performance with the ball.
Pakistan were bowled out for just 55, leaving their bowlers with a very difficult task of defending a small total against a strong Indian batting lineup.
