IRELAND

Ireland cricket is stepping into a landmark phase, with the 2026–27 season shaping up to be one of the most significant in the nation’s cricketing history. Featuring high-profile international fixtures, historic tours, and expanded global engagement, both the men’s and women’s teams are poised for a defining year.

The highlight of the season is undoubtedly Ireland hosting New Zealand for a one-off Test match in May—marking the first time the Irish side will play a Test against the Black Caps on home soil. This fixture not only reflects Ireland’s growing stature in red-ball cricket but also signals increased trust from top-tier cricketing nations.

A Historic Test and High-Profile T20 Clash

The Irish summer begins on a historic note with the one-off Test against New Zealand at Stormont, Belfast. For a team that gained Test status relatively recently, hosting a top nation in the longest format represents a major step forward.

Shortly after, Ireland will welcome India for a two-match T20I series in June. With India being one of the most followed and competitive teams in world cricket, this series is expected to generate massive attention and provide Ireland with an opportunity to test their skills against elite opposition.

Afghanistan Series and Expanding Global Engagement

Ireland will continue their home season by hosting Afghanistan for a five-match ODI series in August. All matches will be played at Bready, offering continuity in conditions and a chance for Ireland to build consistency in the 50-over format.

Beyond home fixtures, Ireland’s international commitments expand significantly. The men’s team is scheduled to tour Nepal for a white-ball series, followed by a training camp in the UAE, where they will also play bilateral matches. This reflects a strategic move to gain experience in diverse playing conditions.

A notable development is Ireland’s first-ever tour of Pakistan, which is expected to be a multi-format series and could potentially include a third team. Additionally, Ireland will return to the UAE for a multi-format contest against Afghanistan.

Women’s Team: A Year of Opportunity and Exposure

Irish women’s team also has a packed and exciting calendar ahead. They will participate in the ICC Women’s Championship, alongside preparing for the T20 World Cup in the UK.

A tri-series featuring West Indies and Pakistan will serve as a crucial preparatory tournament. This will be followed by a three-match ODI series against West Indies at home and an away series against England in September.

Looking ahead, Irish Women are also scheduled to host major teams like India, New Zealand, and Pakistan, while touring countries such as Australia, Zimbabwe, and Sri Lanka. These engagements underline a strong push towards competitive exposure and long-term development.

In a progressive move, Cricket Ireland has invited the Afghanistan women’s team—currently without a home base—to tour home. This initiative highlights Irish commitment to inclusivity and global cricket development.
