Team India has announced its squad for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the T20I team, with Shubman Gill as his deputy. Rohit Sharma will captain the ODI team, with Gill as his vice-captain.
In a notable absence, Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the series. This series marks an opportunity for Team India to strengthen their positions ahead of the ICC World Cup. With a strong lineup, Team India is expected to put up a solid performance against Sri Lanka.
The squad boasts a familiar look with several T20 World Cup stars returning to the fold, including Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, Mohamamd Siraj, and Axar Patel. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah has been rested from the tour, and Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will focus on the ODIs. This marks a new chapter for Team India’s T20I team under the guidance of their new head coach, Gautam Gambhir.
On the other side, Shubman Gill has been named as the vice-captain of both the T20I and ODI squads. The 20-year-old batsman has been in impressive form lately and will be looking to continue his good run in the upcoming series.
The ODI squad also features Riyan Parag, who made his debut in the T20I series in Zimbabwe. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant have been chosen as the wicketkeepers, with Sanju Samson missing out. Pacer Harshit Rana, who impressed in the IPL 2024 season for Kolkata Knight Riders, has been included in the ODI squad alongside Khaleel Ahmed.
