The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has completed the first round of interviews for the coveted position of India’s head coach, with Gautam Gambhir and WV Raman emerging as the top contenders.
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising of Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, and VVS Laxman, conducted virtual and in-person interviews with the two former Indian cricketers.
According to sources close to the development, Gambhir’s virtual interview was satisfactory, but it was WV Raman’s detailed presentation that impressed the CAC.
The 53-year-old former India batsman made a strong case for himself, showcasing his expertise and understanding of the game. Raman’s thorough approach may have given him an edge over Gambhir, who is reportedly the front-runner for the job.

BCCI to take another interview on Wednesday but this time an overseas candidate:
The BCCI is set to interview an overseas candidate on Wednesday, leaving fans eagerly anticipating who will join the fray. The new coach will be responsible for leading the Indian team in all three formats – Tests, ODIs, and T20Is – from July 2024 to December 2027.
The deadline for applying for the role was May 27, and the selected candidate will replace Rahul Dravid, whose contract was extended until this year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
As per reports, the new coach will have a significant say in selecting their support staff, with some sources suggesting that Gambhir may want to surround himself with people he is comfortable working with. However, the BCCI also reserves the right to propose its own candidates or individuals it deems suitable for the job. Ultimately, it will be up to the chosen coach to assemble their team.

The BCCI has yet to confirm whether it will float an advertisement for other support staff appointments or not. With several big names in contention for the top job, fans are eagerly awaiting the final decision.
