  1. The Indian National Cricket Team played their first-ever test match at home in December 1933 at the Bombay Gymkhana Ground against England, which the visitors won by 9 wickets.
  2. The only overseas venue where the Indian National Cricket Team has played a minimum of 5 test matches and hasn’t lost even a single one of them is at Bourda, in Georgetown, Guyana and India has drawn all of the 6 matches they played at this venue.
  3. India registered their first ever overseas Test victory against New Zealand at Dunedin in 1967-68 and the top scorer for India in both the innings was Ajit Wadekar. Ajit Wadekar scored 71 and 80 runs respectively in first and second innings as India registered their 5 wicket victory over New Zealand.
  4. Minoo Mankad was the first Indian bowler to pick up 10 or more wickets in a test match as he took 12 wickets by giving away 108 runs in an innings against England in Chennai in February 1952. Later that year, he again took a 10 wicket haul this time against Pakistan in Delhi by giving away 131 runs and grabbing 13 wickets in an innings.
  5. Virendra Sehwag holds the record for the highest individual score in a losing cause as he scored 201 runs in a 168 run loss to Pakistan in Bangalore in March 2004.
  6. In the 1959-60 India-Australia match in Calcutta, the first time ever a batter batted on all five days of a Test and he was Jaisimha and he scored 20* and 74 runs respectiviely in the first and second innings of the drawn test.
  7. Ganesh Chaturthi celebrates the elephant-headed Hindu deity, and the story goes that Indian fans brought “Bella”, a baby elephant on loan from the Chesington Zoo, to the ground on the final day at The Oval after India’s first ever test win at the oval.
  8. Harbhajan, who took the hat trick in the test match against Australia by dismissing Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist and Shane warne grabbed 13 wickets in the match and 32 in the series, the most by a spinner in a three-Test series.
  9. India have won only nine of their 59 Tests against Pakistan – a win percentage of 15.25% which is the worst win percentage of India against any nation. However 64.4% of India-Pakistan Tests have ended in draws.
  10. India’s closest Test win (in terms of wickets remaining) is their one-wicket win against Australia in Mohali in 2010-11. An 11-run last-wicket stand between VVS Laxman and Pragyan Ojha as Laxman scored 73* and Ojha scored 5* to lead India to victory.
