Sri Lanka pulled of a massive 246 run win over Pakistan in the second test match to draw the two match test series 1 – 1. Pakistan successfully chased down the huge target in the first test match but this time the Sri Lankan spinning duo led the host to the victory.  Prabath Jayasuriya took a five wicket haul in the 2nd innings while Ramesh Mendis took 9 wickets in the match , one more than Jayasuriya.

Pakistani batting looked overdependent on captain Babar Azam and paid the  price for it. The host was expectional both with the bat and ball. Sri Lankan team now moves to 3rd position in the WTC points table with 53.33 percentage points. India are fourth with 52.08, while Pakistan have slipped to the fifth spot with 51.85 percentage points.

South Africa and Australia remains on first two spots on the WTC points table with 71.43% and 70% respectively and are prime contenders to play the WTC finals at Lord’s in 2023.

Sri Lanka’s win is a big boost to the team as they have now managed to come back from a loss to draw a series in two back-to-back series at home.  They had beaten Australia in the 2nd Test of that series to make it 1-1, before repeating the same against Pakistan.

Sri Lanka  378/10 (Chandimal 80, Naseem Shah 3/58) and  360/8 dec (De Silva 109 , Naseem Shah 2/44) beat Pakistan 231/10 (Agha Salma 62, Ramesh Mendis 5/47) and 261/10 ( Babar Azam 81, Prabath Jayasuriya 5/117) by 246 runs.
