The English fast bowling duo James Anderson and Stuart Broad have been left out of England’s 16-man squad for the West Indies series next month. Durham opener Alex Lees got his maiden Test call-up, along with Yorkshire seamer Matthew Fisher.
28 year old Lees, who captained the England Lions in Australia and provides a good option in the top-order with Burns and Hameed dropped from the squad after struggling in Australia.
Buttler is dropped as well after a poor performance in the Ashes series which also ended him being injured (having a broken finger) and also missed the final Test, with Surrey keeper Ben Foakes returning. Lancashire fast bowler Saqib Mahmood is included as well in the squad.
“No-one doubts the quality and experience that James and Stuart bring to the England set-up. It will be up to the new managing director and permanent head coach to decide on whether they will be involved this summer and beyond,” said interim managing director Andrew Strauss.
