Indian seamers activated their prime mode after Suryakumar Yadav’s brilliant half-century as the hosts clean sweep the series by 3-0 after a 17-run win over the West Indies in the third and final T20I on Sunday.
After Deepak Chahar got off the field due to limping and failed to complete his third over of the game due to a hamstring injury, Harshal Patel (3/22), Venkatesh Iyer (2/23 from 2.1 overs) and Shardul Thakur (2/33) took the matter into their hands and went on impressively defending India’s 184/5. The West Indian Wicket-keeper batter Nicholas Pooran, who was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad continued his prime form scoring the third successive fifty (61 off 47 balls; 8×4, 1×6) but was unable to make his side win the match as West Indies managed just 167/9. The complete all-around performance from the Venkatesh Iyer deserves applause as he scored crucial quickfire runs in the middle and also sent Pollard and Holder back to the pavilion without letting them create more trouble for the hosts. With this win and the clean sweep of the 3 match series, the hosts India became no. 1 in the latest ICC T20I rankings.
