Whenever the script of Indian cricket will written, a page will be of Anil Kumble. Kumble is the highest wicket-taker for India in Test cricket. He has taken 619 wickets for India but his debut in Test cricket carries very bad memories for him.

Not only this, the first few years of his career were not good, neither did his ball turn nor did he look that effective in the field.

For Anil Kumble, who made his debut against England in 1990, something happened in that match that he would hardly forget. Kumble, who made his debut under Kapil’s captaincy, had dropped the catch of England batsman Allan Lamb in that match.

Former Indian spin legend Bishan Singh Bedi narrated an anecdote recounting the earlier incident in the program Midwicket Tale. He said that ‘In the match against England, Anil Kumble was fielding at fine leg and he dropped the catch of Allan Lamb. Kapil Dev scolded him for dropping the catch.

Bedi said, “It was his first match. I was the cricket manager at Old Trafford. Anil dropped the catch and Kapil shouted at him. It was his debut and I think it was Kapil’s 100th Test match. When we reached the dressing room, we saw him crying.” Maybe it made him stronger. It was necessary to shed tears at that time which later made him a strong cricketer.

But only after 2 years he began to show his talent. After 10 years, when fans saw Kumble bowling against Brian Lara with a broken jaw, no one could believe that Kumble was the same bowler he used to be in the 1990s.
